Jordan, New York is a small village
nestled in
the heart of Central New York
and Finger Lakes Region
with a population of about 1400 residents.
Incorporated in 1835, Jordan is one of two villages residing in the Town
of Elbridge;
County of Onondaga and a little more than half way between the two
cities of
Syracuse and Auburn, New York. We are an Original Erie Canal
Village.
Jordan became a bustling village when in 1819 the Erie Canal
opened.
Midway between Albany and Buffalo, Jordan was a main stopping off place
for
overnight passengers. It became a major transportation center.
The canal, which ran through the middle of town, is now a
National Historic Site. It has become a beautiful park.
What was once the original
tow path for the canal is now the newly restored Erie
Canal Trail.
Much of the canal's structure
has been preserved and is a marvel to look at.
Jordan is off the beaten path a bit but
well worth the trip to see us.
